We’ll Write Your Copy

My wife Launa and I were discussing things last week and she pointed out that when the company she works for was looking at having a website developed, one of the biggest hurdles they saw was copy.

Specifically, they were daunted by the thought of having to write promotional copy for the site… in Launa’s words, they thought “isn’t that what we’re paying YOU for?” Good question…

It depends. If your Web developer comes from an IT background, you’re probably NOT paying for copywriting. It’s generally not a part of the service they’re offering.

If your developer has a marketing or advertising background, then you probably ARE getting copywriting as part of the deal.

Since my background includes both IT and marketing, I was ambivalent about including copywriting as part of the website development… but after the conversation with Launa it became apparent that Webcentric should include copywriting as part of the website development package.

So that’s the deal — I’ll write your copy, you read through it and make any changes, suggestions, etc., and we’ll get your site done without you having to stress about the copy.

The good news is that I wrote Web copy extensively in the late 90′s and early Oughts for a wide variety of businesses — and I enjoy writing copy. It’s a fun challenge, and it helps me understand my customer’s businesses even more — which should result in a more effective website.

So… don’t let concerns about having homework writing website copy stop you from giving us a call and putting your business on the Web!

p.s. Launa ended up building her company’s website herself, without my involvement. And it’s working great! They get targeted leads that they convert to sales — which is what many business websites are all about.
